About the Event

"The question ‘As an older LGBTQ+ person in 2020 what message would I give to my younger self?’ and subsequent reflections were both deeply personal and sensitive, and while the participants began the journey with some reticence, the workshop activities and associated creative conversations helped to establish an increasingly open environment"

In 2020, Arts Alive and Media Active approached SAND (Safe Ageing No Discrimination) about a creative project engaging older LGBT+ people in conversations. Through many iterations and the advent of Covid 19 restrictions, the project emerged as a series of zoom workshops facilitated by local artist Dea Paradisos. Dea encouraged individuals in the group to create their own artwork inspired by discussions about a 'message to their younger self'. Working with technician Richard Benjamin, Dea then brought the artwork to life in an 8 minute animation.

Join us for an introduction to the project from Sue Gainbrough, Media Active, a viewing of the animation itself and insights about the process by Dea and Richard.

There will then be a short comfort break before re-grouping for those who fancy having a go at a creative workshop led by Dea.
